Ultrasound Techs

Prenatal Care: Whether you have a low risk pregnancy or a more complicated high risk pregnancy, we work with you to optimize your pregnancy outcome.  We offer the full range of screening testing options, including genetic testing, Down Syndrome screening, diabetic screening, etc.  We would like your birth experience to be both enjoyable and safe.  We are happy to discuss your wishes and answer your questions throughout the prenatal care process.

Gynecologic Care: We care for patients from early adolescence through the menopause years and beyond.  We provide complete annual wellness care (pap smears, cholesterol screening, bone density, etc.).  We also are available for any gynecological problem you may be encountering.  We try our best to get a patient with a new problem in to see a health care provider as soon as possible.

Ultrasound: Our Ultrasound department has two state-of-the-art machines, both of which have 3D/4D capability which can be utilized for more in-depth diagnostic imaging.  We have three diagnostic medical sonographers, each having over 25 years of OB/Gyn scanning experience. All of our sonographers are registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in OB/Gyn as well as credentialed by the Fetal Medicine Foundation for Nuchal Translucency testing, and Nasal Bone certified.

Bone Density Scan (DEXA): We have a new, up-to-date bone density machine.  This enhanced form of an x-ray will tell you if you are losing or maintaining your bone as you approach or go through menopause.  We then use a FRAX assessment to help you understand your risk for future bone fracture.  This test can also be used to monitor your treatment for osteopenia or osteoporosis.

Laboratory: We have a Quest Diagnostics phlebotomist on site at both of our offices for your convenience.  This allows us to perform screening lab work (i.e. cholesterol, thyroid) or diagnostic lab work (hormone testing, etc.) with ease.

Colposcopy: This procedure is used for patients with certain types of abnormal pap smears.  It allows us a magnified view of the cervix such that we can note any abnormal areas and take biopsies.  The biopsies will help us determine what further treatment a patient needs after an abnormal pap.  See FAQ for more information.

LEEP: (loop electrosurgical procedure): This is an procedure in which an abnormal area of the cervix is removed (after an abnormality is noted on a pap smear and colposcopy).  It allows us to send a specimen to the pathologist for further evaluation of the degree of the abnormality so that we can determine the best course of treatment for you.  It also allows us to ensure we were able to remove the entire area where the abnormal cells lie.  This is done right in our office with local anesthesia.  See FAQ for further information.

Minimally Invasive Surgery: In the past, the most common treatment for abnormal bleeding and other gynecological issues was abdominal hysterectomy. Now, there are several other treatment options available as listed below. In the last year, when our patients did require a hysterectomy, at least 75% of our hysterectomies were performed via minimally invasive surgery.

  • Endometrial ablation:
This procedure is useful in patients who have completed their childbearing and who are having severe heavy bleeding and cramping with their periods. The results are either a complete or dramatic reduction in menstrual flow and pain, and the ease of recovery usually allows patients to return to their normal activities the next day.

  • Vaginal hysterectomy:
This type of hysterectomy allows us to remove your uterus entirely through the vagina with no incisions on the abdomen. Studies over the years had often concluded that vaginal hysterectomy should be a preferred route of hysterectomy as it is associated with fewer complications and shorter hospital stay than abdominal hysterectomy.
  • Laparoscopic hysterectomy:
Laparoscopic surgery involves using a camera and special tools to operate through small incisions in the abdomen. We used this technique in the past mostly to remove ovaries and ovarian cysts. We have expanded our skills to perform more and more procedures this way, including hysterectomy. This allows us to remove a uterus through three small incisions rather than one large incision.
  • DaVinci Robotic Surgery:
This cutting edge surgical technique allows us to do hysterectomies and more complex ovarian surgery through a few small incisions rather than through a large abdominal incision. This provides our patients with shorter recovery times and shorter hospital stays. The robotic technology allows the surgeon greater precision and control during surgery. Drs. DeDonato and Sadowski are our DaVinci trained and certified surgeons.

Our doctors are all trained in these minimally invasive procedures and will continue to look for and new and improved ways to treat old problems.

Infertility work-up/treatment: “Infertility” is defined as one year of unprotected intercourse without achieving pregnancy.   In patients over 35, that time frame is decreased to six months.  If this applies to you, please make an appointment to come see us.  We understand that difficulty in getting pregnant is one of the hardest things a couple can go through, and we would like to help you.  We offer laboratory and x-ray work-up as needed and can start treating you, depending on your situation.  We have an excellent referral network for our patients that need the help of an infertility specialist.

Botox/Juvederm: We are introducing these aesthetic treatments to our practice, again for our patients’ convenience.  These treatments can be used to temporarily smooth away wrinkles and folds in the skin.  See: http://www.botoxcosmetic.com/index.aspx   http://www.juvederm.com/default.aspx

Interpersonal Counseling: We are available to work with both adolescents and adults struggling with depression and mood disorders, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, substance abuse, self-injury, and school and adjustment issues.

Laser Hair Removal: Recent advances in laser hair removal technology now make it possible to permanently reduce unwanted body hair, quickly and easily, with proven long-term results. Our goal is to provide the most technologically advanced techniques utilizing only the highest quality, state of the art equipment and the most qualified personnel.
